Judge Alexis C. Angell

Nominated by President Taft to replace the retiring Judge Swan, Alexis Caswell
Angell reluctantly accepted and was confirmed by the Senate on March 2, 1911.

Judge Angell did not like the heavy workload and found the cases “utterly
distasteful,” He turned in his resignation to President Taft on March 12, 1912, thus
ending the shortest tenure for a U.S. District judge in the Eastern District of
Michigan.
