Judge Edward J. Moinet

Edward Julien Moinet was confirmed to a new seat in the Eastern District in 1927.
He had prior judicial experience, serving from 1913 until his federal appointment
as a judge of Michigan’s 29th Judicial Circuit Court.

One of Judge Moinet’s notable cases involved a very glamorous woman, “Countess” Grace Buchanan-
Dineen who promptly fainted when he gave her a sentence of 12 years in the
federal penitentiary.

The Detroit Free Press’s edition of March 26, 1944, headline
was “Five in City Spy Ring Sentenced.” Judge Moinet retired from the court in
1946.
